Roy O’Reilly reached the rank of flight lieutenant with the Royal Australian Air Force (R.A.A.F.) during World War Two. He was killed when the Wellington bomber aeroplane he was in charge of crashed in England during a non-combatant operation. Prior to the war he had been employed as Deputy Commissioner of Stamp Duties in Townsville, Queensland.
