A native of County Kildare in Ireland, George Kerr became one of the top professional lawn tennis players and one of the top lawn tennis coaches in the world. He emigrated to the United States in 1916, where he continued to coach the sport for many years. He died in Pennsylvania in March 1954 at the age of 96.

Obituary – George Kerr

George Kerr, retired international lawn tennis player and instructor, died Sunday at Gwynllan Farm, estate of Mr and Mrs Alexander D. Thayer, in Gwynedd Valley. He was 96.

Mr Kerr was a native of County Kildare, Ireland, had coached lawn tennis in Dublin for many years and had been a leading player before the turn of the century. He had been lawn tennis tutor for the German royal family from 1910 to 1920 and was lawn tennis professional at the Philadelphia Cricket Club. Mr Kerr was a widower.
