William Daniell was the brother of fellow lawn tennis player Agnes Daniell, who won the mixed doubles title at Wimbledon in 1913 with Hope Crisp and married another lawn tennis player, Charles Tuckey. William Daniell had reached the rank of major in the British Indian Army when he was killed in action during World War One two weeks before what would have been his thirty-ninth birthday.
