Claude Barrelet de Ricou was the brother of fellow lawn tennis player Paul Barrelet de Ricou. They were the sons of Alfred Barrelet de Ricou, a native of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, and Julia Barrelet de Ricou (née Appleton Fuller), who was born in New York City.
In 1930, Claude Barrelet de Ricou married the American Eleanor Edwards (later Mrs Wood Prince), who became a renowned art collector and philanthropist. They had one son together and were living in Paris at the time of Claude’s unexpected death from an infection in January 1935 at the age of 27.
