Hugh Gerard Sweetman was an Irish Fine Gael politician who served as Minister for Finance from 1954 to 1957. He served as a Teachta Dála (T.D., or Member of the Irish Parliamnetn) for the Kildare constituency from 1948 to 1970. He was also a Senator for the Labour Panel from 1943 to 1948. He was killed when the car in which he was speeding left the road and crashed near Monasterevin in County Kildare.
