About

His father, a Russian industrialist, had a cotton factory in Łódź at the beginning of the 20th century. After the outbreak of World War I, the family fled to Russia before their city was occupied by the Germans. In 1925, Maksymilian returned from the USSR to Łódź with his brother. And they both became leading Polish tennis players at once. Although ten years older Jerzy first lost in the final of the Polish championship to Stanisław Czetwertyński, but in 1927 he made his revenge, and a year later he defeated the same opponent in the match decisive for the title of Max. Together, they won the doubles title for 6 years in a row (1926–1931), which has never been repeated in the history of Polish tennis. They were also the pillars of the Lodz KLT club team, which also won the Polish team championship for 6 consecutive seasons (1927–1932).
Maximilian's duel with one of the famous French tennis "Musketeers" - Henri Cochet became legendary. They met in a friendly match with the Paris Racing Club in 1931, at the Legia courts in Warsaw. In the fifth set, the Pole was leading 5: 4 and played an unbeatable game right next to the line during the match, but the referee - wrongly according to many - called out. The second occasion was not given to him by the five-time Grand Slam champion ...
During World War II, Max Stolarow made his way to Great Britain, where he served in the ranks of the 1st Armored Division of General Maczek. He remained in exile, incl. he worked at the BBC. In 1946, his name appeared on the list of participants in the Wimbledon tournament, but he did not start the first match and thus lost the scheduled match by forfeit.
