Gerald F. Norman, a teacher for 47 years, the last 33 at Long Island City High School, died Monday in Flushing (Queens) Hospital. He was 91 years old and lived at 137-62 Juniper Avenue, Flushing.

Mr Norman joined the city school system in 1905 on graduation from City College. He was believed to have been the first black to teach regularly at the high school level in the state.

He was a founder and former executive secretary of the American Tennis Association, formed in the years when the United States Lawn Tennis Association was barred to blacks. He was also instrumental in enabling Althea Gibson, the black tennis star, to take part in previously segregated tournaments.

Surviving are a son, Gerald Latimer Norman of Brooklyn, and a daughter, Winifred Latimer Norman. He was predeceased by his wife, Emma Jeanette Norman (née Latimer).
