Early career

Johan Willem Hugo van den Wall Bake (Bussum, 29 May 1901 - Pully, 28 July 1993) was a Dutch lieutenant colonel, head of the labor affairs section of the military authority during the Second World War and, among other things, an honorary officer of the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

At the age of 19, Bake took part in the national tennis championships on behalf of the Hilversum tennis club (1920). From 1943 to 1945 he was head of the Labor Affairs Section of the Military Authority and later coordinator of industrial relations and personnel administration of the Batavian Petroleum Company.

Later career

In February 1947, Van den Wall Bake participated as a member of the delegation in the ten-day conference on the petroleum industry in Los Angeles. Other delegation members included Director of Labor Dr J.A. Gerth and Member of Parliament dr. A.H.W. hack. In 1961 Van den Wall Bake was a member of the supervisory board of the Amsterdam-Tapanoeli Rubber Cultuur Maatschappij.

Van den Wall Bake was an officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau, an officer in the Order of the British Empire and an officer in the Legion of Merit. By British Royal approval of November 28, 1945, he was made an Honorary Officer of the Military Division of the Most Exellent Order of the British Empire. By Royal Decree of 20 March 1946 he received permission from the Dutch government to wear the decorations.

He was appointed officer in the Legion of Merit by general orders of June 11, 1946 and was granted leave to wear the decorations by decree of July 19, 1946. The decorations were presented to him in The Hague on August 16, 1946.
