Former State Senator James S. Barron, 65, who represented Norfolk for two terms in the General Assembly, starting with the session of 1924, died at his home in Princess Anne County Sunday morning after an illness of three weeks.
He was born at Warsaw, Dec. 3, 1875, the son of the late Capt. James S. Barron of the Confederate Navy and Mrs. Agnes Barron. He was educated in the schools here and at the College of William and Mary and the University of Virginia. He received an LL.B. degree at the university in 1903, where he had been president of the senior law class. He went to Norfolk in 1904 and had been a practicing attorney there since that time. He was Norfolk city police justice from April, 1912 until Oc. 1914.
He was a former president of Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association and, until recently, a member of the seven-man board of the Virginia Pilot Association.
Mr. Barron is survived by his wife, Mrs. Katherine M Ryan Barron; one son James Smith Barron Jr. ; one daughter, Miss Sally Chilton Barron; three sisters, Miss Sally Hagner Barron of Baltimore, Mrs. Imogene Barron Denny of Staunton and Mrs. H. L. Segar of Warsaw.
