Enlisted, March 27, 1915, in Troop B, Squadron A Cavalry, New York City. Mustered in to federal service on the Mexican border with Troop B, Squadron A Cavalry, June 30, 1916. Returned from the border, December 23, 1916, mustered out of federal service, December 28, 1916, New York City.

World War 1, attended OTC at Plattsburg Barracks, NY and commissioned, 1st Lieutenant, Field Artillery, Nov. 27, 1917, promoted Captain, March 1, 1919. He was assigned to the 307th Field Artillery, 78th Division, stationed at Ft. Dix, NJ. He deployed with the 307th Field Artillery to France, on May 25, 1918. He saw combat in France and returned to the States, May 14, 1919. Discharged from the service, May 16, 1919.
