About

From The Chicago Tribune, 9 September 1923:

John W. Corwith, scholar, dies on estate in east

John W. Corwith, son of the late Henry Corwith, pioneer Chicagoan, and a brother of Mrs Ernest A. Hamill, wife of the chairman of the board of the Corn Exchange National Bank, died yesterday at his farm homestead near Westchester, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. He was 55 years old and unmarried.

Mr Corwith, who was a graduate of Yale and had devoted most of his life to reading and study, retired to his Westchester estate about fifteen years ago. His health failed ten years ago and since that time he had lived in seclusion.

His mother, Mrs Isabelle Corwithj, died in February 1922, at the age of 96 in the old Corwith home at 1945 Prairie Avenue. Survivors besides Mrs Hamill are two other sisters, Mrs Alfred L. Baker and Mrs Ambrose Cramer, both of Lake Forest.
