About

Educated at Winchester College and Cheltenham College, David was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th Battalion, North Staffordshire Regiment in 1887 and was advanced to Lieutenant in the following year and to Captain in May 1889.

He subsequently served in the 4th Battalion in operations in Cape Colony, where his unit successfully defended Richmond against a far superior enemy force. He was invalided home in the transport Plassy in January 1902 (Queen's Medal & clasp; King's Medal & 2 clasps). Having been advanced to Major and resigned his commission, Saunders-Davies died at Llwynbedw, Wales in July 1905.
