About

Hector went to Haarlem to finish high school there, studied language and culture in Lausanne and went to the Indies for practical experience on the plantations. He returned to the Netherlands in 1903 and married Marie Jacqueline Cornelie Dólleman, from a Haarlem family of the same level, known in the local sports world (football, tennis) as 'De Dóllemannen'.

The couple started a riding school in Heemstede, moved to De Steeg near Rheden on De Veluwe, then in 1920 to Brummen, where Hector founded the equestrian association De IJsselruiters. In his Heemsteed time, Hector held all kinds of positions in the world of hockey and bandy, but was also active on ice skates between 1900 and 1912. Not only did he participate in the first two Eleven Cities Tours, but during leave from the Indies and then from Heemstede, he played for the Haarlemsche Hockey and Bandy Club, for which a whole procession of well-known H.F.C.-ers came out. In the winters of 1902 to 1905, this club played international bandy matches in Davos and there he probably came into contact with Coen de Koning.
