Death of Mr Roderic Lloyd-Williams

On Saturday list Colonel and Mrs Lloyd-Williams received a telegram from Rio stating that their eldest son had died there on the 21st, from yellow fever. The news soon spread through the town and the deepest regret was expressed, and the most sincere sympathy felt by all the townspeople with Colonel and Mrs Lloyd-Williams and family in their very severe bereavement.

Deceased was 33 years of age, having been born on January 13th, 1861. He was educated at Twyford, near Winchester, and Cheltenham. He was articled to Messrs Gold-Edwards and Weston, and had passed all his examinations before he was 21. He went to London and was in the offices of several prominent solicitors, and then in the office of the well-known solicitors, Messrs Woodcock and Walmsley, of Wigan, after which he returned to Denbigh, and was in the office of Messrs Gold-Edwards and Co.

He was a capital athlete, and was captain of the Vale of Clwyd Cricket Club. He acted for several seasons as secretary and treasurer of the soup kitchen, and took a good deal of interest in it. In April last he went for a voyage to the Cape, from there to Rangoon, and thence to Rio de Janeiro, from whence he was about to start for home.

Here, however, his ship and scores of others were in the Bay, waiting to get to the wharves, and unable to do so on account of the insurrection. Here he was seized with yellow fever, that deadly enemy of the Englishman, to which he quickly succumbed. Particulars of his illness, however, have not yet been received, the announcement of his unexpected death having been briefly telegraphed.
