About

Second son and child of musical conductor, Edwin Bruce, and his wife, Sarah Merriem Babcock. As a young adult, he was a highly skilled tennis player, and then became an opera singer, as he had a superlative tenor voice.

He was a member of Longwood Tennis and Cricket Club and the Boston Athletic Association.

As an actor and opera singer, he was a member of the Lambs' and Playgoers' Club, New York.

The Springfield, Massachusetts, Republic newspaper announced on February 28, 1909:

"The death is announced, at his home in Boston, of Merriam Bruce, until 5 years ago well known actor and singer. Mr. Bruce was born in Boston in 1868. He played under the management of Daniel Frohman in 'Lost Paradise' and 'The Charity Ball'. He afterward appeared with Henry Miller and Julian Marlowe."

He was only 40 years old when complications from diabetes took him. He had suffered from it 3-4 years.
