Also called George. He came from a wealthy, very successful German-American businessman. His father Frederick "Fritz" Achelis (1843-1924) was the president of Lenox Hill Hospital in New York and he was also the president of the American Hard Rubber Company, a venture enjoying its hey-day in the age of the automobile boom.
His mother was Bertha Franziska Konig (1855-1921). He had two sister, Margaret and Elizabeth who were twins.
He graduated at Yale in 1907.
He took over the chairmanship of the company from his father.
He died at the age of 41 at his home on Round Hill Road, Greenwich.
He had three children: Audrey, Frederic and Getrude.
