About

Lionel Knight was the youngest of the four lawn tennis-playing Knight brothers born to an English father and an Argentine mother in the city of Rosario in Argentina. His brothers were Edward, Stanley and Albert. Lionel Knight notably won the men’s singles title at the River Plate Championships in Buenos Aires ten times in a row, from 1913 to 1922.

When his lawn tennis career was ending, Lionel Knight took up golf. He also opened a business on Calle Reconquista in Buenos Aires, selling golfing equipment. However, this business did not do well and Lionel Knight is believed to have fallen into poverty and to have died destitute in 1963 at the age of 78.
