Attended Upper Canada College in Toronto and the University of Western Ontario. Variously a journalist, film producer and owner of several sport franchises. John Bassett also enjoyed some success as a squash player. He was the father of fellow tennis player Carling Bassett who married another tennis player, the American Robert Seguso. John Bassett died at the age of 47 following an illness caused by two brain tumours.
