About

Harold Aitken was a cable clerk with the Eastern Telegraph Company. In 1909, he married Edith Hall and his employers moved him to Cape Town for 10 years. His address is shown on the birth certificate of his son Claude, my father, as The Foreland, Avenue Protea, Sea Point, Cape Town. He captained the Sea Point tennis team in 1912, and returned to England in 1919, when he played for South Africa in the Davis Cup.
