Gordon Ferrier was the brother of fellow tennis players Percival, Violet and Ivy Ferrier, and the first cousin of another player, David Ferrier. During World War One, Gordon Ferrier was a Gunner with the 24th Australian Field Artillery battery of the Australian Imperial Force; he was awarded the Military Medal for services rendered during the war.
