From The Kiama Reporter and Illawara Journal, 5 August 1931: Obituary – Alderman Eric John Ashcroft – The sad news of Alderman Ashcroft’s death cast a gloom over Nowra on Saturday. He was recovering from an attack of pneumonia, and was believed well on the way to convalescence when he collapsed suddenly from heart failure and died at the early age of 38 years. Intense sympathy is felt for his wife, Sarah [Sallie], and children, John, Pat [daughter] and Ted. While president of the Shoalhaven Agricultural Society, he filled the chair admirably and was a keen all-round sportsman, excelling in tennis, bowls and golf, and took a helpful interest in all public affairs. The funeral on Sunday was one of the largest seen in the district for some years, the interment taking place in the Roman Catholic cemetery.
