About

A native of Étretat in north-west France, George Boissaye was the son of Adolphe Alfred Boissaye, an industrialist and Mayor of Étretat from 1884 to 1892, and Marie Emma Boissaye (née Bartaumieux ). Georges Boissaye studied engineering at the prestigious École centrale in Paris and later worked in the areas of arts and manufacturing. In the 1890s, while attending school and university in Paris, he was a contemporary of such early lawn tennis players as the Vacherot brothers, André and Marcel, and the Brosselin brothers, Georges and Henri. In the late 1890s and early 1900s, Georges Boissaye enjoyed particular success at the nascent lawn tennis tournament held annually in the summer in his native town of Étretat.
