About

Maurice Cucheval-Clarigny was one of the players who, in the 1890s, took part in some of the earliest editions of the French National Championships. He was the son of the renowned academic, Latinist and teacher, Victor Cucheval-Clarigny, who taught rhetoric at the prestigious Lycée Condorcet secondary school in Paris from 1873 until his retirement in 1899. During his time at the Lycée Condorcet, his pupils included the future author Marcel Proust. Maurice Cucheval-Clarigny worked as a tax collector (receveur des finances).
