Baron Adalbert von Widmann was born the son of the long-time Moravian provincial governor Baron Adalbert Widmann, senior (1804-1888), an important representative of Moravian “constitutional” landowners. He inherited the large estates of Plavec in Znojmo and Nalzovice in Sedlcany. He was the chairman of the Business Association in Znojmo.

In 1891, Baron Adalbert von Widmann joined the civil service as a governor in Bohemia. In 1898, as a district commissioner, he was called to the Ministry of the Interior, where he was promoted to ministerial secretary and the section council. In 1909, he was appointed a court councilor in the Silesian regional government in Opava and deputy to the Silesian regional president.

In the government of Richard Bienerth, Baron Adalbert von Widmann was appointed Minister of Agriculture. He kept the post in the following government, that of Paul Gautsch. He held the position from January 9, 1911 to November 3, 1911. During the First World War, he held the post of regional president (deputy) of Silesia from the end of March 1915 and remained in the post until the end of the monarchy.
