Paul Fanning attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and represented that establishment at lawn tennis during his time there. He later worked in the mining industry and spent some time living in South-East Asia in the years circa 1911-13. He married Ella Palmer Hayt on 6 September 1916 in his native city of Denver, Colorado, but died in February of the following year at the early age of 32.
