Hume Jones was a quarter-finalist in the men’s singles event at the Irish Lawn Tennis Championships in 1889. In the 1911 Census of Ireland, under the heading Rank, Profession or Occupation, he described himself as a District Inspector in the Royal Irish Constabulary. This police force was disbanded in 1922, during the Irish Civil War.
