Paul von Herz-Hertenried was one of the best of the early Austrian lawn tennis players. He was the son of Julius von Herz-Hertenried and Henriette von Herz-Hertenried (née Öttinger). Paul inherited the title of knight (‘Ritter’) from his father. He married Anna von Ephrussi in 1889 and they had two children together.
