Info Froitzheim played under the pseudonym O. Roland

Report The 1926 edition of the German International Championships suffered under 7 walk overs in the 1st Round and two walkovers in the 2nd Round. Since the german papers and Tennis und Golf preferred to publish only the matches which were actually played, it is very difficult to assign the walkovers.

It is certain that Lane had to play Kreuzer in the 1st Round,Tomilin progressed into the 2nd Round although he did not appear in Hamburg and Dr.Brandis and Mackenthun reached the Quarter-Finals without stepping onto the red courts. It is also very likely that Froitzheim also progressed into the 2nd Round because he notified the tournament officials only on Friday evening (13.VIII.1926) that he was injured and could not play.

He would not have waited this long if his 1st Round opponent would have already been present in Hamburg. However, the draw was discussed in Tennis und Golf and various newspapers before the start of the tournament. This makes it possible to assign the non appearing players to their opponents, although it must be admitted that there are some insecurities, especially in the case of Macenauer,Menzel and Spiess.

Tennis und Golf also mentioned that Rodzianko,Rohrer and Hans Heydenreich did not appear. Since Rohrer played in the quarter of Moldenhauer, it is possible that he was the opponent of Zander and was substituted with Thümmel. This could explain the inclusion of elderly players like Dr.Brandis,Galvao and Mackenthun which were certainly past their prime and only qualified to play in the second singles competition.

Moldenhauer himself did not play Froitzheim in the 1st Round but the Hamburg player Roland who performed under a pseudonym. The deciding match of the championship was the quarter-final between Moldenhauer and Bela von Kehrling. It was staged twice: on Sunday it was abandoned at 63,61,46,36 and restarted on Monday. The final itself was staged on Tuesday.
