André Vacherot was the brother of fellow lawn tennis player Marcel Vacherot. They were the sons of Arsène Vacherot, a civil servant and contributor to the literary magazine La Revue des Deux Mondes, and Marie Vacherot (née Harley). Although he had neither a robust physique nor much time in which to practice lawn tennis, André Vacherot was nevertheless able to win the men’s singles title at the French National Championships four times (1894-96 and 1901). This was one of the most impressive achievements by an early French lawn tennis player. A doctor of law, André Vacherot was working as a notary in the French city of Rouen when he died in February 1924 at the early age of 46.
