Info The 1936 Olympic Games were staged in Berlin 1.-16.VIII.1936.Since this major event collided with the traditional date of the German International Tennis Championships and a July date could not be negotiated with the International Lawn Tennis Federation,the tennis officials of the Reichsbund Für Leibesübungen,the central sports organisation which was controlled by the NSDAP,were forced to cancel the most important german tennis tournament.In May 1936 the Reichssportführer Hans von Tschammer und Osten decided to compensate the tennis community for this cancellation by creating the Baden-Baden International Invitational Tournament which was organised by the tennis department of the Reichsbund für Leibesübungen.For this special one-time occasion the trophy for the
Men`s singles competition-the so called Ehrenpreis des Führers und Reichskanzlers des Deutschen Reiches-was donated by Adolf Hitler himself.Apparently,Henner Henkel was allowed to keep the trophy.Originally,it had been planned that the regular edition of the Baden-Baden International Tournament,organised by the
local tournament council,was to be staged 10.-13.IX.1936.However,this event was cancelled due to bad weather before it even started.
