About

He grew up in Genoa in a famous noble (Balbi) family. He started his sports career as soccer player at the second team of Genoa FC. Meanwhile in 1893, he entered the Tennis Club Genoa.
After leaving football definitely, he devoted himself to tennis. He obtained 9 Italian national champion titles, 4 in singles (1914, 1921, 1926-27) and 5 in doubles (1914, 1920-22 and 1926). In 1914, he also won the International Tournament of Naples.

He had two appearances in the Davis Cup for Italy and the participation in the 1920 Antwerp Olympics.

He won the famous Monte Carlo Tournament in 1922, overcoming the Frenchman Alain Gerbault in the final in three sets.
